I'm continuing a meme/challenge by
flo_nelja. Here's the original post with the questions
12) Are there some m/m or m/f ships that you love genderswapped as f/f?
Honestly not really? I tend to prefer working with the canonical girls, even when they're written badly (I’m currently in shounen manga fandom where that's the norm). I can see the appeal of turning a relationship involving one or more guys into f/f... men are usually the better developed characters who are more central to the narrative, so turning one or more of them into girls basically gives the girls all this epic stuff to work from... but for me personally it just kind of feels like giving up on the canonical women of the narrative. I love a fixer-upper, so I don't mind using women who have been shafted by canon.
13) Did you already write original femslash? If so, what was it about? If not, what would it be about if you did? If you would never, why?
Ahahaha yes I certainly have some original fiction work with F/F, with a variety of concepts. Before I accepted I was bi, I wrote a musical set in an all-girls school, partially so I had an excuse to make one of the romantic pairings F/F (bc of course a musical needs a romance, but most the characters in this show are women, so I could claim I had no choice!). Of course I then added two convoluted F/M pairings so I wouldn't look "too gay" for doing that... Though the F/F pair got three duets all focused on their romance, while the F/M pairings each got one duet focused on non-romantic subjects. I was not subtle.
The musical one I think is the funniest one because I was trying to be "not gay" about it (I'm just such a good ally!) but I had several others... Including but not limited to: One involving an alien getting to know these two sisters and get incorporated into society, where the alien was a (sort of) girl in love with one of the sisters, and the other sister was dating a boy but secretly in love with a hot mechanic girl... Another story involving three mermaids, and one of the human-hating mermaids falling in love with a human girl... Another musical involving a robot who gets integrated into human society despite anti-robot sentiments, where there was a heterosexual bait-and-switch where the "male love interest" turns out to be a villain and the main girl dates the best friend instead (also another pair of gals who are bullies are lesbians just because I love villains and giving women villain songs)... Currently also a robot erotica WIP centering around a robot girl and a human girl fucking in various ways (there's plot too, but it's an excuse for the erotica).
At the moment my main creative energy is focused on creating fan content, but as you can I was writing quite a bit before I ventured onto posting fanfic on AO3.
14) Favorite femslash ship of all times
That's too hard to choose!... Perhaps Catra/Adora? When I first watched season one, I immediately shipped those two! In other fandoms, I'm a huge sucker for Chloé/Marinette from Miraculous Ladybug and Fuyumi/Miruko for bnha. Oh! And also Anthy/Utena just for the sheer power they have.
15) A guilty pleasure
Hmmm I'm not sure what would apply here... Not femslash-exclusive, but I suppose dubcon? I generally don't like full noncon, but I love an ambiguous/slightly-forced spicy situation in fiction. A favorite angle is Sex Pollen/Fuck-or-Die/aphrodisiacs in general which are all very contrived... but I still love it!
16) A fandom where I have so many femslash ships
Aaa hard to choose just one... Though I'm not active there, She-ra has so many (and Scorpia is shippable with like, so many gals). I'm actively in bnha, and I will say there is a surprising variety of F/F ships you can get in there! Even if the girls don’t always get development, there’s a lot of them to choose from and they generally have great character designs and other little details to work from.
17) A femslash pairing I like on principle without even being in the fandom
Hmm perhaps Marceline/Bubblegum from Adventure Time? I will admit I watched all the episodes where they were prominent and ignored the rest, so I know at least some canon, but I'm definitely not involved in the fandom at all haha.
Oh also all the RWBY ships. I watched a few seasons and dropped off, but I love seeing fanart of those cool gals together.
18) A character I headcanon as lesbian/wlw without having big ships with her
I can't think of any at the moment... I tend to love shipping, so when I think of a gal as wlw I generally am thinking of another gal she can get together with as well!

Date: 2022-02-19 05:45 pm (UTC)Why is this so funny ahsuajs thank u for sharing this
I kinda had the opposite response where I avoided all things F/F and always went "romance is so lame romance doesn't exist". Then after I had my omg I'm bi moment I went ham for F/F and "but what if ?? romantic date??? 🥺🥺 FLOWERS AND CANDLELIT DINNERS"
YESSS i love your vigilante Fuyumi centric fic that ships her with Miruko btw, I don't remember if I've told you that but it's suuper great. I consumed the whole thing straight (or not so straight idk) They're so fun together!

Date: 2022-02-19 08:11 pm (UTC)And tbh, a lot of M/F romance (especially mainstream) leaves uh... a lot to be desired. Can get frustrating when all romance seems to be sexism in a pretty heart-racing coat! Not that F/F and M/M are immune to this, but I find the power dynamics (usually) more balanced in those cases, where in M/F romances... it's pretty default to have some big weird power dynamic or stereotypes going on. Not that there's not good M/F romance out there, but I can see how seeing a lot of the usual stuff could turn one off of romance!
Thank you for the kind words about my fic!!!! <3 <3 <3 I'm glad you enjoyed it (and that romance in general has become more enjoyable with the F/F realization!)

Date: 2022-02-20 02:43 am (UTC)Ahh I think this is a big part of it. At least now I've got the words to describe my displeasure/dissatisfaction with it; when I was much younger and used to read YA, coming across romance often annoyed me and I couldn't put my finger on why apart from "oh I must not be interested in romance after all". Half the time kid!me was like, god this guy's a dick go away and give me plot! Isn't the world supposed to be ending???!!!?
Then again when I was a tween I loved the first three installments of the Mortal Instruments books, which were pretty big on romance. So...????
