Halloween party: Success!
Oct. 28th, 2023 11:50 amMy roommate and I host a Halloween party every year, and this time was just as lovely as previous years! The prep got a little stressful at times, and I think overall we were a little less organized than in previous years, but luckily nobody coming was judging us for not having everything perfect XD.
Three of us dressed as characters from The Locked Tomb series (Gideon the Ninth etc). I haven't technically finished the third book (once I finish it, it will be done!! And then I will have to wait until the fourth book comes out to know what happens next, and I know I'll be SCREAMING bc Tasmyn Muir always ends on some sort of huge cliffhanger for each book) but I've really enjoyed it, and we dressed as characters that are significant in the first two books, so it was good.
There was some crossover of various friend groups/family (my sister who moved into the city came by), and I always get nervous about those sorts of crossovers where many people don't know everybody, but in the end I think everybody there ended up being sociable and getting along well. My sister also floated the idea of having a little "high school reunion" board game night or something, since I, my roommate, another party guest, and my sister all went to the same high school, and the party guest knows one or two other people from our high school in the area. It's kind of fun seeing these people from a previous lifestage in adulthood, and I love that we all ended up in the city. It's probably the biggest city within distance of our hometowns, so it makes sense.
A friend who works as a historical re-enactor also encouraged me to go visit the Boston tea party boat that she works at. I'm atrocious at history so I have never been, but she told me she could get me in free so >:). My sister and I are thinking of going there with my oldest brother at some point, since he really likes going to museum-type things that are unique to a location.
Not now though, the weekend is time for relaxation. My previous week wasn't too stressful, but my roommate was going through a LOT. All good stuff, but it was like every night she had SOME sort of commitment and has been doing hard stuff at work during the day, so there hasn't been time for her to actually have a night in and chill in ages. I did as much party prep as I could during the week to ease her burden, but then she felt bad about me taking that on XD. But! We have a handful of things that need to be done, but there is some actual free time where she'll hopefully be able to unwind.
