Went to the protest!
May. 22nd, 2023 09:13 pmI was able to make it to the Stop the Shock protest! I was not there the whole time, only the last hour or two because of work, but even just for a bit I'm glad I went, in spite of my uncertainty/nervousness prior.
It was primarily some tables and signs and such and handing out info to everyone who passed by.... and it was the Boston Common (a well-traversed nice park area most people like to walk along or picnic right in the heart of the city) so there was quite a lot of foot traffic! It was heartening how many people stopped... obviously many people just passed by uninterested, but even in the short time I was there several people went up to the table for more information and such and took flyers. It was also nice to chat with some new people as we all held signs together; I felt a little awkward but I think that's unavoidable in new situations like that. My one regret is that I didn't squeeze out of work earlier so I could have been there longer!
There are many other bills in the House, and the JRC has done a lot of lobbying and taken aggressive measures to continue their "aversive conditioning" treatments, but I am hoping that with the extra calls/letters/emails to our representatives that hopefully H. 180 is able to pass, and that I may have contributed at least a little bit to it.
