My roommate and I saw the Nutcracker recently in Boston, and WOW!!! It's famous for a reason, incredible set design, costuming, and feats of the human body (ballet)! Though many of the dancers had precise technical abilities with their dancing (oh my gosh so many spins), I have a real soft spot for the more theatrical/emotional 'dancing' of the mice and mice king, they did a fantastic job creating a rodential vibe. And when it came to effects, there was a snow scene at the end of act I that was very magical, but also!! I got so scared bc they had this fake snow falling for like, 15-20 minutes to the point where it was piling on stage and you could see the ballerinas leaving tracks in the 'snow'.... I was like "Oh my goodness somebody is going to slip and fall!!!"

But yes a fantastic experience, I'm a little sad I didn't go last year. Last year my roommate really wanted to go, but I was sort of in 'sad and cold and just moved to a new place and don't want to go anywhere' mode and was like "*hiss* no". But as always my roommate is correct that going out and doing/seeing things is super fun! We both did theater in high school (I was... perhaps a lil hardcore with performing in 2-3 shows per year), so we have a real soft spot for the performing arts. But even though we've been living in THE CITY where performing arts should be hip and happening, the only two shows we've been to are this Nutcracker and a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance Halloween 2021 (that was also good and fun and had me walking out of the theater like 'wow I sure am bisexual').

After seeing this ballet, my roommate and I are like "We should go to more performances!" and she has a new years resolution to do so. I recently learned of something called "The Slutcracker" and begged her to go with me, but it turns out she's not really comfortable with burlesque-ish shows, so :'(. I may have to bravely go alone or figure out who in boston might go with me (I have a few friends in the area, but most are 1. Not into horny shows 2. Traveling the rest of december or 3. Not quite close enough to go to that kind of show with??? but maybe I should push myself to BECOME closer by inviting them out....)

However! A friend of mine from high school who lives in the area, who we see on occasion, sent out a call to several folks in the area including me like "Yo any of you want to watch this new/amateur play with discounted tickets my friend is in??" so I'm going to go to that, and feel out whether that person or any of the others invited might be interested in a slutcracker at the end of December. I think my expectations are high for performances after seeing the nutcracker, but I am also a big fan of amateur/new/experimental works, so even tho that person gave the caveat that they don't know if it's good or not, I'm raring to go and dive back into watching more stage stuff.

If you ever get the chance, and living in Boston you probably will, go and see Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.

The Trocks are a professional all male ballet company who dance classical ballet beautifully and that includes all the women's parts en pointe! They're also really funny.
