Keeping secrets (hehehe)

jajalalaWas hanging out with the beloved roommate the other day and tangentially got onto the topic of a certain fanfic she wrote awhile back, and she was like "[Jaja] u should read it I think you'd like it" and I had to be like "Ahaha no for sure it's on my list, I'll get to it at some point..." and then we also got onto the topic of podficcing ventures and she was like "Oh bro u should record urself reading it out loud and reacting to it for the first time, that seems like it would be fun!" and I had to be like "Ahaha omg that's a fun concept maybe I will lol"
BUT THE DEEP DARK SECRET is that I've already read it. I read each chapter at LEAST twice bc I read it aloud as I read it for the first time, reacting along the way, and then immediately afterwards I switched to "formal" mode and recorded it normally. Then I took notes as to my initial reactions that I would normally put in the comments box of each chapter.
I had to sneak these recordings over the past few months whenever she's out traveling or generally out of the house for a few hours... I did a review of the "formal" cut (which is currently unedited) and it is at least 5.5 hours of recording.... double that plus time for me cackling and reacting for the "first read" version.... beloved roomie I know this fic so well I've spent at least 11 hours of my life reading it out loud and also noticing that you pepper in too many french words that I need to look up the pronunciations of.
Anyways I finished the last recording in early September.... but I've been procrastinating terribly on doing the actual editing to post! But this recent conversation has reminded me I need to actually do that so I can confess to her that I've read the fic and squeal with her about it.
Because maybe I am a strange creature, but I want to hit her all at once with it. All on the same day, I intend to drop those comment-notes I took in the comment box of each chapter (so she can see my reactions without HAVING to listen to over 5 hours of my voice if she wants XD). Then post the podfic AND ALSO post that "first read" version at the same time. I want to surprise her so hard and leave her wondering like "Wait [Jaja] when the fuck did u find the time to record this when we live together and are always hanging out????"
But so why have I been so delayed? Well I started podficcing as a wrist-lite activity, and although recording is def gentle on the wrists... editing is a bit more intensive XD. And it's not SO bad with a oneshot if I just edited at the end, but when doing a multichapter work, there's a lot more material.... Especially if I decide to record alllll the chapters and not even THINK about editing them, and then suddenly I have 13 raw files I need to edit... oopsy. Sorry wrists.
Okay second deep dark secret I also recorded ANOTHER one of her fics but it was like, a "warm up" multichapter to get to know my flow a bit better. This was a lesbian Phantom of the Opera fic that was only 21k, 9 chapters long, so I was like "perfect! I can plow through this as a way to get more experienced before I do this extra big reading for this Cool Special fic (a 49k, 13 chapter work).
BUT THEN I PROCRASTINATED ON EDITING THAT.... and instead of editing I just went right into recording the other bigger work afterwards.... I love the recording part it's the editing that sucks.
But today I did a BUNCH of editing! I completely edited the lesbian phantom of the opera one, have it hosted on the various hosting sites and am (maybe) going to officially post it to AO3 tomorrow, it's drafted and functional and everything... I've attempted to include a download link to an audiobook format (M4B) but I don't use audiobooks so idk if it ACTUALLY works, but there's streaming and mp3 download options as well.
I also finished up and posted a oneshot (for a different author) that I had recorded a long while ago, but had just never gotten around to properly putting the finishing touches on... there are a couple other 'in-progress' ones that I really want to address properly and post, but I'm hoping to maybe get this goliath of a project for my roommates fics cleared away first so it's not hanging over my head anymore XD.
When I post the goliath podfic I will def post on here, especially some reflections on the "first read" experience which I want to get into, but I have promised myself not to get to post those fun reflections until I ACTUALLY EDIT AND POST IT.... I started editing the first few chapters today, just need to power through AT SOME POINT and chip away at it so I don't wear myself out.
