Roomie's Book

jajalalaMy dearly beloved roommate has been writing for many years, and in my (perhaps biased) opinion has written several books of publishing quality, but last year she ended up submitting her novel for a certain call and got her work officially accepted by a publishing house! End result is that she's been going through various stages of the process for the past year or so (trading edits back and forth with them, cover design feedback, etc) but last weekend she got a galley copy of the book with like, all the formatting and text and chapter headers and all that good stuff all pretty and packaged up! Obviously this is like, the last call for last-minute edits and fixes, so both of us read it (She's read it many times, I've only read it around once as it was being written so I was the 'fresh eyes' on the new copy)
We did note a few things and one BIG formatting issue (involving italics and dialogue tags, we don't know exactly how the formatting was done but wonder is some automated process caused an issue. Either way we've marked everywhere where it happened and asked them to take a look as well), but otherwise it was super cool to see it laid out like a professional paper book (or currently a digital pdf but yaknow)! The typeface and other elements like the line breaks nailed the aesthetic; it's gonna be SO exciting to see it on paper soon. Although I don't know how soon "soon" is, the expected publication date is this May, but idk if/when they send advanced copies.

I've also staked a claim as the first person who will post fanfic of it on AO3. I've got a few possible concepts for it for several different pairings, but as soon as I finished the novel I felt VERY compelled to write something for one of the main characters and her very evil ex-girlfriend... Ahahah my roommate HATES that pairing (she wrote them as exes for a reason) but I ended up with an angsty/porny oneshot anyway that she ended up reading. Afterwards she was like "Bro I thought you didn't like horror???" and I'm like ":D That's not horror it's just a bad relationship!" anyways apparently it stuck with her for several days and she found her evil mad scientist character that she hated somewhat more compelling afterwards and has new angst fuel for the main character who got hurt in the process. Sorry roomie, at some point I'll write something fluffy or porny for the main/canon pairing, but there was too much delicious possible angst for that problematic pairing to ignore.
